The Healthiest (and Unhealthiest) Things You Can Order at Burger King

It’s not easy to go to a fast food place and find something healthy. But today, fast food restaurants are becoming more aware of nutrition and making changes to offer healthier menu options. We picked out the healthiest and unhealthiest options at Burger King to make your next drive-thru trip a little bit easier.

First, let’s start with the healthiest options.

5. Bacon, egg and cheese Croissan’wich

A croissant breakfast sandwich.

Calories: 340
Fat: 18 grams
Sodium: 730 milligrams

Although this is the fifth healthiest on the menu, this specific Croissan’wich is actually the healthiest overall breakfast option Burger King offers. While calories and fat differ slightly among Croissan’wiches, this option has the lowest amount of sodium by a long shot. So if you’re craving some Burger King breakfast, your healthiest bet is to go with this option.

4. Chicken fries

Calories: 280 grams
Fat: 17 grams
Sodium: 850 grams

It was a sad day when Burger King decided to pull chicken fries from their menu. But thankfully, they listened to the public and brought them back. And believe it or not, they’re one of the healthiest options. This low-calorie food does have a high amount of sodium, but realistically, so do most fast food options.

3. Garden chicken salad

A salad on a white background.

Calories: 340
Fat: 15 grams
Sodium: 770 milligrams

It’s no surprise there had to be at least one salad on this list. Burger King’s garden chicken salad is low in calories and not bad in fat, but it does have a good amount of sodium for a salad. This also excludes dressing. And believe it or not, it’s the only salad on this list. Although it’s definitely not a bad option, you might be surprised at what options are actually healthier.

2. Grilled chicken sandwich, no mayonnaise

Calories: 370
Fat: 7 grams
Sodium: 740 milligrams

A plain grilled chicken sandwich takes the second spot on our list. As long as you order it without mayonnaise, you’re looking at a pretty healthy sandwich. Along with lower numbers of calories, fat, and sodium, you’ll also get 37 grams of protein.

1. 6-piece chicken nuggets

Six chicken nuggets on a white table.

Calories: 260
Fat: 16 grams
Sodium: 470 milligrams

Although the four-piece nuggets are technically even healthier, that might not be enough for a full meal. But it’s hard to believe an order of six-piece chicken nuggets can still be healthier than a salad. The truth is, these chicken nuggets actually aren’t too bad for you. They have more fat than the grilled chicken sandwich, but much less sodium and calories. But don’t order anything larger than a six-piece.

Next: Here are the unhealthiest options at Burger King.

5. 20-piece chicken nuggets

Chicken nuggets on a white background.

Calories: 860
Fat: 54 grams
Sodium: 1,570 milligrams

The truth is, we could all probably eat a 20-piece chicken nugget if we were hungry enough. And even though one of these tiny pieces of chicken seems harmless, the more you eat, the worse it gets. A single nugget has about 43 calories, 2.7 grams of fat, and 79 milligrams of sodium. And you could probably eat a whole nugget in a single bite. Next time you feel like you can’t live without this snack, opt for the four-piece or six-piece order.

Next: This breakfast option is one you’ll want to avoid.

4. Supreme breakfast sandwich

The Burger King Supreme Breakfast sandwich.

Calories: 880
Fat: 59 grams
Sodium: 2,170

This sandwich is definitely supreme. And it also packs a supreme amount of calories, fat and sodium. Plus, there are 375 milligrams of cholesterol packed into it. For reference, the average daily cholesterol intake should be between 200 and 300 milligrams, depending on your health. It’s probably best you don’t eat more than that just at breakfast.

Next: You won’t believe how much the cheese makes a difference in this option.

3. Double Whopper with cheese

The double whopper on a white background.

Calories: 980
Fat: 64 grams
Sodium: 1,410

A double whopper seems a bit unnecessary. But that extra patty plus cheese? That’s what brings this sandwich to third on our unhealthy list. This whopper with cheese has an extra 80 calories, six grams of fat, and 360 milligrams of sodium. As much as you probably love cheese, leaving out even one slice can make a big difference in nutrition.

Next: Avoid this breakfast dish at all costs.

2. BK Ultimate Breakfast Platter

The Ultimate Breakfast Platter on a white background.

Calories: 1,190
Fat: 66 grams
Sodium: 2,460

If you’re craving the ultimate breakfast platter, you might want to think again. This option has more than half the daily recommended amount of calories. Plus, it’s filled with sodium; more than an entire day’s amount is stuffed into one dish. Scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, a biscuit, and pancakes complete this seemingly unnecessary breakfast option.

Next: This is the No. 1 unhealthiest Burger King option.

1. Bacon King sandwich

Calories: 1,150
Fat: 79 grams
Sodium: 2,150

When it comes to the unhealthiest option on Burger King’s menu, this sandwich is king. Although it has less sodium and calories than the breakfast platter, it has 13 more total grams of fat and 16 more grams of saturated fat. This puts it at the top of the list. Yes, bacon does make anything better, but for the sake of your arteries, you might want to skip this one.
